Jeanie Buss, owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, shared her thoughts on the trade that brought Luka Doncic to the team. She and general manager Rob Pelinka had faced heavy criticism in recent years for their decisions. However, that changed after they made the trade, sending Anthony Davis to acquire Doncic.

Letting go of Davis was a risky and difficult move for the Lakers. He had led the franchise to a championship in his first season in 2019-20. However, the opportunity to acquire Doncic was too good to pass up.

The Lakers’ goal is to make the 25-year-old star the face of the team once LeBron James decides to retire. This is a major step for the franchise, and Jeanie Buss expressed her excitement in an interview with Entertainment Tonight:

“Luka is a very special player; we are thrilled to have him with the Lakers. But we had to give up a lot to get him. We are going to miss Anthony Davis and Max Christie. But, you know, you always try to improve the team, take a step forward, and ultimately win a championship.”

Now, head coach JJ Redick is tasked with making the trio of Doncic, James, and Austin Reaves work together, as their main priority is the team’s success.

For Luka Doncic, Redick is an excellent coach. In fact, they were teammates in Dallas, and Doncic believes he is doing a great job leading the Lakers. “He’s a great coach. I know it’s his first year, but it doesn’t feel like it… It feels like he’s been here for 15 years. So, props to him, and I’m excited to keep learning from him.”
