LeBron James left the Los Angeles Lakers in suspense after suffering an injury during the game against the Boston Celtics. His team not only lost its eight-game winning streak, but now the King of the Court must recover, with no clear timeline for his return.
Everything was going well for James until the final quarter, when he went down injured, leaving the crowd in shock. This was one of the most anticipated games, considering the historic rivalry between the two NBA franchises.
What happened to LeBron James?
The game was nearing its end. LeBron James scored two points against Jaylen Brown at the 7:05 mark. Before making the basket, the Lakers star executed some pivot moves, but he may have overextended them. Suddenly, he felt intense pain that forced him to stop.
It appears James suffered a groin strain. Despite this, he remained optimistic, stating that he would assess his condition in the coming days. However, experts suggest that there is no clear timetable for his return to the court.
Once he felt the discomfort in his groin, James recalled a past injury: “The first thing that came to mind was Christmas Day, my first season in Los Angeles. I’ve been there before and I know what kind of injury we’re dealing with… The first thing I thought was 80… It’s crazy… Then I was trying to see how much mobility I had and if I could give it my all,” explained the Lakers star.

“Then I came back here to do some delays and a few things that I obviously knew would be tough… When I returned, I looked at the scoreboard, and it was 95-91… Oh, shit! These are the moments we live for, especially in a game like this,” he added.
An uncertain future for the Lakers without LeBron James
This injury is a big setback for the Lakers, who were on a winning streak. In fact, Dave McMenamin of ESPN believes it is impossible to set a return date for the Lakers’ star. It is likely he will need several weeks of rest.
“I don’t know, I’ll sit down and talk with Mike to see what the best plan is moving forward… We have to stick to our habits, but we are not where we were… They are defending champions, we’ve played together for a long time, and they have good chemistry,” James said about the Lakers’ future.
Regarding the upcoming games, LeBron stated: “They know what they want to do… We had a strong season, and we’re still trying to build… We want to win… That is our number one goal.”
Now, it is unclear if the four-time NBA champion will be in top shape for the playoffs.
