Shaquille O'Neal bids with absurd offer in auction of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant memorabilia
To get his hands on them, Shaquille O’Neal placed an interesting bid in the auction where these pieces are up for grabs. However, there’s a long way from making an offer to actually buying them. We’re talking about memorabilia worth millions of dollars, at least according to auction expectations.
It’s no secret that sports memorabilia can reach astronomical sums. Now, the auction house Sotheby’s has presented two jerseys worn by none other than Jordan and Kobe Bryant. In response, Shaquille O’Neal made a bid, but it’s unlikely he will win given the amount.
Apparently, this other legend likes memorabilia and wants them in his collection. However, Shaquille O’Neal desires them at a lower price. Although each of these treasures is valued at around $10 million by appraisers, the player offered the silly amount of $20,000 for both.
While it’s an absurd and somewhat ridiculous amount, it also makes for a very amusing bid. It’s impossible for him to actually obtain them. Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith also participated in the bidding, trying to outbid Shaquille O’Neal with slightly higher offers. One bid $30,000, and the other $50,000. All these guys are joking, and none of them will end up with the jerseys. History shows that each piece from these NBA players goes for several million dollars.
However, Shaquille O’Neal’s offer, along with those from other players, makes the purchase much more attractive and increases the interest of serious collectors. The bidding is expected to be intense, so if Shaq wants the jerseys, he will need to add many more zeros to his initial offer.
