Deion Sanders has left Colorado Buffaloes fans in suspense, as it remains unclear whether he will continue as the team’s head coach. Two seasons ago, he took over and led the team to an extraordinary turnaround. From a 1-11 record in the previous season, they finished the last one at 9-4.

In reality, Coach Prime is an invaluable asset to Colorado, making his potential departure a significant loss. However, he may have other professional aspirations leading him to consider leaving the Buffaloes.

Deion Sanders brought his son Shedeur and Travis Hunter to his team. Now, both young stars are headed to the NFL as top prospects for the 2025 Draft. Will this also push Sanders to the big leagues?

Sanders’ decision is uncertain

According to Colorado football reporter Jake Schwanitz, “Coach Prime was asked about a possible contract extension. ‘Maybe, I don’t know. I’m not worried about myself, let’s take care of everyone else first.'”

The possibility of Sanders parting ways with Colorado is not far-fetched. Earlier this offseason, he considered taking a coaching job in the NFL. In fact, he had discussions with Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys. However, they did not reach an agreement, and the franchise ultimately hired Brian Schottenheimer instead.

Coach Prime has not entirely ruled out the NFL. However, he has repeatedly stated that he would only make the move if his sons were on his roster. Currently, he is in the third year of his five-year, $29.5 million contract with Colorado, which he signed in December 2022.

Christopher Kamrani of The Athletic reported: “Colorado and Sanders are in the middle of contract extension negotiations, according to a school source familiar with the discussions.” If Colorado wants to keep him, they may need to offer him more money and make him the highest-paid coach in the league.
