Andy Reid has openly shared his thoughts on Travis Kelce’s underwhelming performance with the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2024 season. Despite the team making it to the Super Bowl, his stats fell short of expectations.
The head coach pointed out that Kelce’s numbers were lower than anticipated. Could a specific distraction have played a role? Some speculate that his relationship with Taylor Swift affected his focus on the game.
Travis Kelce’s ups and downs in the NFL
Andy Reid believes that Kelce had one of his worst statistical seasons since entering the NFL. The tight end recorded just 97 receptions, 823 yards, and 3 touchdowns—numbers that shocked fans but didn’t surprise Reid.
During the NFL owners’ meeting, Reid addressed Kelce’s situation, saying, “He’s willing to adjust. He’s learning when to step out, and he will when necessary. I believe that will continue as he ages.”

When discussing the Chiefs’ quarterback performance, Reid explained, “We suffered setbacks at wide receiver positions… That doesn’t help a tight end’s situation.” In other words, Kelce alone wasn’t enough to carry the team to victory in every game.
However, Kelce still had some bright spots in 2024. He surpassed Tony Gonzalez in total receptions and reached 12,000 career yards faster than many legendary quarterbacks in NFL history.
A critical decision after the Super Bowl loss
After the Chiefs’ loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, Kelce nearly walked away from football. The defeat hit him hard, and he seriously considered retiring. But Andy Reid advised him to be patient, and the Chiefs’ star took that advice to heart.
Kelce decided to stay for one more season, determined to give his best effort. As he prepares for what could be his final year in the NFL, he is fully committed to leaving everything on the field.
