Dak Prescott’s future in question as Cowboys focus on winning
Recently, the quarterback suffered a hamstring injury, which sidelined him for the entire 2024 season. Following his surgery in November, uncertainty remains over whether Dak Prescott will be ready to return to full strength.
Dak Prescott’s performance on the field has sparked debates among analysts and experts. A significant concern is that this marks his fourth surgery since 2020. Back in 2022, he missed several games due to a fractured right thumb, followed by surgery on his left shoulder.
The Cowboys have bolstered their roster by adding former Eagles wide receiver Parris Campbell. However, doubts remain about whether the franchise will draft another quarterback as insurance in case Dak Prescott struggles upon his return.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport suggested that the Cowboys might consider drafting a backup quarterback for Prescott. But this notion was quickly dismissed by Clarence Hill Jr., who argued that such a move doesn’t align with the Cowboys’ strategy.
As reported by Essentially Sports, Hill addressed the Dak Prescott rumors on X, sharing Rapoport’s video and his blunt take: “There’s no chance the Cowboys pick a quarterback in the second or third round. They have too many pressing needs and an urgency to win now.”
Rapoport speculated that the Cowboys might consider a prospect like Quinn Ewers in the second round of the draft. However, as of now, these are just rumors. The Cowboys’ moves remain uncertain, though their priority to win suggests they view Dak Prescott as an essential piece in their quest for success.
It’s worth noting that just six months ago, Dak Prescott signed a record-breaking $60 million per year extension, a deal finalized before his injury. With such a substantial investment, the Cowboys will undoubtedly aim to see those dollars pay off on the field.
