Deion Sanders breaks his silence on shedeur and the NFL Combine amid a storm of criticism
Despite being one of the top projected quarterbacks in this year’s NFL Draft, Shedeur has opted not to throw at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. This decision has sparked strong responses across the college football world.
While some see it as a strategic move, others fiercely criticize it—one person even took aim at his father on social media.
On February 26, Deion Sanders posted an encouraging message on X (formerly Twitter)—a message that, under normal circumstances, wouldn’t have been controversial:
“Please make sure you’re okay. You’re a blessing, helping and looking out for everyone else, yet you’re still hurting inside. I know you make sure we’re blessed, but we won’t be okay if you’re not okay. We appreciate you and we need you! Take care of yourself!”
A positive message, right? But in the world of social media, there’s always someone ready to stir the pot. One user dropped a bombshell in the comments:
“You should be ashamed that your son [Shedeur] isn’t throwing at the Combine. He’ll never achieve anything, and you should be disappointed.”
Instead of responding with anger, Deion turned the criticism into a lesson:
“God is so good to me and all my children. I pray that you feel the same joy I’m experiencing with your own kids. I pray for you, my friend. God bless you.”
With this response, “Prime Time” once again showcased his ability to turn negativity into a moment of reflection.
The controversy stems from Shedeur Sanders’ decision to skip the NFL Combine, following a similar strategy to last year’s No. 1 overall pick, Caleb Williams.
Instead, Shedeur will throw at Colorado’s Pro Day in the coming weeks, where he can work with his own receivers in a controlled environment. On his 2Legendary podcast, he explained the reasoning behind his choice:
“A lot of factors influenced my decision not to throw. I’m on a strict preparation schedule. Right now, we’re focused on gaining weight, maintaining strength, and ensuring consistency in throwing the ball.”
The question remains: Is this a masterful move to secure his best Draft performance, or a missed opportunity on the biggest stage? With the debate heating up, the NFL world will be watching closely to see what’s next for Shedeur Sanders.
