Travis Hunter knows he has everything it takes to shine in the NFL soon. That’s why he addressed Travis Kelce’s comments about his potential in professional football.
Playing at the college level is not the same as competing in the NFL. While NCAA stars dream of making it to the big leagues, the reality at the professional level is entirely different. Excelling in the NFL requires not just skill but also exceptional physical endurance to withstand the intensity of this high-contact sport.
In one of the episodes of New Heights, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce stated that he firmly believes Travis Hunter can play both sides of the ball in the NFL. However, he emphasized that Hunter must prove himself, as only Deion Sanders has done it before, back in the 1990s.
“It’s 100% possible. But he’s going to have to prove he can do it. No one has played every snap on both sides. When Deion did it, he was in nickel packages, specific formations. But in the NFL, they had to strategize to keep him from wearing down too much. Teams will really have to weigh that in their play-calling, both offensively and defensively,” Kelce explained.

Hunter’s response was crystal clear
After hearing Kelce’s remarks, Hunter took the feedback positively and embraced it as a challenge to continue his success—this time at the professional level.
The Colorado Buffaloes’ cornerback and wide receiver confidently responded: “He told me I have to prove I can do it, and that’s my main focus. I’m going to show that I can and will do it. He’s not lying—I still have to prove myself.”
He continued: “I can’t just enter the league and expect people to say, ‘Oh, here you go, Trav, you can do all this,’ without stepping up and performing the way I’m supposed to. So yes, I’m going to prove it. He’s not sugarcoating anything, and I appreciate that. That’s exactly what I’m going to do.”
Hunter, at just 21 years old, is eager to prove himself on the field. However, he must also consider the physical toll of excelling in both roles. Despite the challenges, his desire to make history in the NFL remains unwavering.
When a fan asked if he could score both a pick-six and an offensive touchdown in the same game, Hunter didn’t hesitate: “Yes, I’m definitely excited… if I’m the first person to do it, that would be amazing. But like I said, I still have to prove myself. Hopefully, I’ll do just that and continue dominating as I always have. I just have to keep being me.”
Without a doubt, Hunter’s confidence is sky-high. It’s exactly what he needs to stay focused on his goals. Now, the football world eagerly awaits his debut in the NFL, where he has the chance to silence any skeptics with his performance on the field.
