March 14 is the deadline the Kansas City Chiefs set for Travis Kelce to decide his future. He has two clear options: retirement or continuing with the Chiefs for his 13th NFL season.

The 2024 season was not his best statistically. Additionally, his Super Bowl VIX performance was underwhelming, as the Philadelphia Eagles limited him to just 39 yards on four receptions. This led to speculation that he might announce his retirement.

Strong chances of a 2025 return

It seems Travis Kelce still has plenty to offer the Kansas City Chiefs. At the NFL Scouting Combine, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach stated that the team’s star still has the skills to compete. This suggests that the 35-year-old tight end is likely to return in 2025.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport mentioned that Kelce was uncertain about staying with the Chiefs after his 2024 season performance. Despite this, and the team’s salary cap limitations, the franchise continues to support him.

Kelce’s return would be a win for the NFL

The NFL is pleased with Kelce’s potential return in 2025, given his status in the league. Additionally, his relationship with singer Taylor Swift ensures a financial boost for the most popular sports league in the U.S.

NFL analysts estimate that Swift’s presence at Chiefs games in 2023 and 2024 generated around $1 billion in revenue for the league. This also unexpectedly increased the salary cap for all 32 franchises.

As a result, there’s a strong chance that Kansas City will retain its trio of Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, and Andy Reid. However, the team faces a different landscape with 20 pending free agents.
