Angel Reese once again had to deny false information about her on social media. This time, it involved two quotes that quickly went viral, but neither of them is real.

Apparently, for some accounts and aggregators, it is very easy to take a fragment of a comment and attach the name of the WNBA star. She even claims that some have completely fabricated these quotes just to stir controversy or gain traffic and followers.

The comments that upset Angel Reese

It is not unusual to see memes online with fake quotes attributed to well-known people. However, two alleged statements from Angel Reese led her to set the record straight.

The first quote claimed that WNBA players “should be paid like NBA players.” It seems to have originated from a meme account identified as “NBA Centel on X.”

The Chicago Sky star has spoken multiple times about WNBA salaries, both on her podcast and in press conferences. However, the accounts that shared these quotes did not specify their source. In fact, Reese stated on her X account that it was completely fabricated.

The second quote attributed to Angel Reese was taken from a conversation she had with Dallas Wings star DiJonai Carrington on her podcast. She referenced some rumors circulating among WNBA athletes about a potential strike if the league does not meet their salary demands.

What the basketball player actually said was: “I need to get into those meetings because I hear like, yeah, ‘if they don’t give us what we want, we’ll sit out.'” However, on social media, the first part of the quote was removed, making it seem as if Reese was making a direct threat.

Some of the accounts that posted this misleading version on X included “MAGA,” “Yahoo Sports,” and “America First.” After Reese called them out and shared the full podcast episode, one of the accounts deleted the post. However, it was later reposted, citing “Community Noter liberal.”

Reese responds to the controversy

The athlete later posted on her X account, expressing her frustration over the hypocrisy of some commentators. “Having to lie for engagement is a crazy job,” she wrote.
